About Machuca Homes

How it started…
Our families both moved to the Machuca Valley in Costa Rica at a similar time, we got to know each other and became friends. We shared our experiences with the challenges of finding a home. Soon enough thoughts started to flow and not long later, an idea to serve the community along these lines started to take shape.
We realised first and foremost we had to make it easier to find a home and easier for home owners to manage their rentals.
A platform for all
In principle, Machuca Homes arises from the need to have a practical, simple and transparent way to find a home to live or stay in our precious Machuca Valley.
The valley is growing at a fast pace with ecological conscious communities opening, attracting people from Costa Rica and around the world. The surrounding neighbourhoods of these communities are also growing with a rental market slowly taking shape.
In time, we wish to support local Costa Rican and expat businesses on our platform, providing new avenues of opportunity for growth.
Why does the community need a rental platform?
Glancing at the homepage, you can see that we list all of the properties right there in full view with the prices below.
We feel this is an important step to support a fair and transparent market place where hosts can get a good sense on pricing their home fairly and efficiently.
There was once a time when we were using Whatsapp groups for finding a home to rent, using Airbnb against their rules by writing phone numbers in messages to chat with hosts. Even in Sam’s experience, walking through the park in San Mateo asking locals who is renting a home!
Well we hope those days are long gone now!
Giving back
The real estate market can be quite extractive at times. Income can be made on rental properties without a way to give back to the community. We are very much aware that Machuca Homes operates in a sensitive ecological corridor that needs care.
With each $ spent and each $ we earn, a small percentage will be sent back to the communities to fund ecological, social or infrastructure based projects in order help support the Machuca Valley during the growth of it’s communities.
