About the Valley

The Machuca Valley in Alajuela, Costa Rica is a corridor of wonderful bio and cultural diversity. The banks of the Machuca River act as the focal point where these two elements of nature and people intersect. The Machuca River feeds into it’s parent river the Jesus Maria River and then out into the Pacific Ocean at Tivives.
Our valley is found between Orotina and Atenas where there is an abundant history with coffee production and mango farms, along with workshops where the classic “carreta” or ox-cart was made for carrying coffee and local fruit.
There is a richness of nature and people that interact along the riparian zone of this beautiful river. These interactions require a delicate sense of awareness where we put faith in our local communities to make collective decisions that reduce our overall ecological and social footprint. Ultimately becoming force for regeneration and not degradation.
Machuca Homes’ mission is to always think along these lines.
